Downtown Napa tasting room emphasizes fun and approachable tastings of
acid-forward, food friendly wines in their prime

NAPA, CA (October 27, 2020) – Shadowbox Cellars has the solution for wine lovers heading to Napa who want to avoid a pretentious and stuffy wine tasting experience. The boutique winery is now offering Salt & Acid, a tasting of gourmet potato chips paired with limited-production wines led by the winemaker/ co-owner in an intimate environment. Shadowbox also features a charming parklet where visitors can explore a flight of wines surrounded by downtown Napa’s lively street scene.

“We make our wines in a style to complement food, whether a composed meal or a delicious snack,” said Justin Preiser, winemaker and co-owner. “Instead of asking visitors to use their imagination to think of what foods would taste good with the wines they’re sampling, we provide gourmet chips in a range of flavors to illustrate possible pairings.”

The Salt & Acid tasting features at least five of Shadowbox’s limited-production wines (some as small as a single barrel) served from Mark/Thomas lead-free crystal stemware alongside three flavors of from the innovating California company Wine Chips: Hawaiian Red Sea Salt, Smoked Gouda and Dry-Aged Rib Eye. The chips, which are lattice-cut to emphasize texture and flavor, are individually sealed in personal-sized portions. Visitors are encouraged to mix and match wines with the chip flavors to excite their palates and discover perfect pairings.

For an even more casual, self-guided experience, guests can choose the Explore Shadowbox tasting in the outdoor parklet, the first constructed by a downtown tasting room and still just one of very few. Four wines are pre-poured, enabling visitors to contrast, compare and revisit. Guests can opt to enhance their tasting by adding on the potato chip pairing.

Shadowbox strives to present its wines in their prime to visitors, instead of offering bottles that need to be aged to truly be best enjoyed. The wines include a Chardonnay, Rosé of Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir, Syrah, the Outline Red Blend and a Cabernet Sauvignon. With a philosophy of “we aged it for you,” Shadowbox showcases wines that are ready to drink now.

Shadowbox has what is likely the smallest tasting room in Napa, and due to COVID-19 protocols and city and county safety guidelines, the indoor Salt & Acid tasting ($55) will be offered to a maximum of  2 groups of 2 , 1 group of 4 or 1 group of 6 people at a time.  Depending on party size, up to 3 groups of no more than 8 people can sit in the parklet for the Shadowbox Experience tasting ($35 with an optional $15 potato chip pairing).

The Shadowbox tasting room is open daily except Wednesday with appointments beginning at 10:30 a.m. and walk-in tastings Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; after-hours appointments are also available. Please note the tasting room will be open Nov. 25 and 27 as well as Dec. 24 and 25. Reservations are recommended by calling/texting 707.738.0386 or emailing [email protected]
