PALM DESERT, CA — It's that time of year again, when the California Highway Patrol asks local residents to help brighten the lives of needy kids.
Thursday, the CHP's Indio Office, which patrols the Coachella Valley, is kicking off the annual "CHiPs for Kids" toy drive. Each year, the Indio CHP collects toys for Coachella Valley children whose families may not be able to afford holiday gifts.
To get things started, a 2 p.m. Thursday kickoff event is being held at Walgreens located at 44840 Monterey Avenue in Palm Desert. Residents are invited to donate a new, unwrapped toy at the store.
Can't make the 2 p.m. event? Not to worry! Through December 18, anyone wishing to donate a new, unwrapped toy can do so at any Walgreens in the Coachella Valley, Mathis Brothers Furniture at 81410 CA-111 in Indio, or the Indio CHP Office at 79650 Varner Rd. in Indio.
