Ready for some fish and chips? Brick Lane Curry House in Upper Montclair has expanded its offerings with a virtual chip shop. Order your authentic British fish and chips through GrubHub from the virtual Bricklane Chip Shop.
Fish options (priced from $8-$14) include cod, flounder, pollock, tilapia and prawns. You can choose from French shoestring chips or British steak fries ($4).
Brick Lane Curry House’s Ritesh Patel says the restaurant had been working on a British-style fish and chip shop idea for many months.
“The pandemic slowed us down, but as we have capacity in the kitchen of the curry house, we decided to launch it using that kitchen. So right now it’s a virtual chip shop,” says Patel.
The chip shop is a soft launch to make sure to get the product right; Patel says the kitchen was reconfigured a bit with plans to add dedicated gluten free fryers for chickpea-based batter.
Patel says the plan is to open a proper British-style fish and chip shop in the next 4-6 months, if not sooner.
“We Brits love our curry and our fish and chips, so after 10 years of serving Montclair with British Style curry, why not offer British Style Fish and Chips with a little Indian twist!”
