The Best & Worst Chips in 2021—Ranked! | Eat This Not That - Eat This, Not That

chips.indah.link

Potato chips, snack crisps, cheese puffs, tortilla chips—whatever you want to reach for come snack time—all have their pros and cons. The obvious pro is that they're delicious, full stop. However, they are a salty snack, which means some of those chips you love pack a lot of salt into each little crunchy bite.

"Simply made of potatoes, salt, and oil, chips are typically an 'empty calorie' food," says dietitian Lauren Manaker, MS, RDN, LD, who also pointed out that in general, chips don't "offer much in the nutrition department." For the most part, a potato chip is simply potatoes, salt, and oil, and while a small ingredient list is often what someone eating healthy would like, that doesn't mean it's necessarily healthy.

That being said, like with just about any food, moderation is key. In fact, snacking on chips as a treat when you really want them can make them even more enjoyable and will satiate your hunger for them.

Though our ranking of chips from worst to best highlights the biggest brands and most readily available options, Manaker advises people to think outside the potato.

"Choosing a chip that contains some protein or fiber (or both!) will give your snack some extra staying power. This may mean choosing a chip that is made from something other than the classic potato or corn," she says. She also cautions against some labels, like "natural," and suggests grocery shoppers read each label to make an independent evaluation on whether or not it's the right snack for you.

We did a little bit of the work for you in deciding which chips are healthier than others. We mostly considered the sodium content, as it's such a concern for so many people. Keep in mind that The American Heart Association suggests adults not consume more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium each day. With that said, check out chips from the most popular brands, ranked from worst to best! While you're making healthier choices during your next grocery trip, be sure to stock up on The 7 Healthiest Foods to Eat Right Now.

herrs salt vinegar chips

1 oz: 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 490 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

The worst of the bunch, Herr's Salt & Vinegar chips are absolutely packed with sodium. Though they aren't loaded with calories or fat, they are higher in saturated fat than most of the other chips too. If you want a salt and vinegar chip, other brands have slightly healthier options.

herrs baby back ribs

1.5 oz: 220 calories, 13 g fat (3.5 g saturated fat), 410 mg sodium, 25 g carbs (2 g fiber, 2 g sugar), 3 g protein

We love that these chips have a little bit more protein than most of the chips on this list, however, they also have a lot more calories, sodium, saturated fat, and carbs, which makes the protein a bit of a moot point.

herrs old bay

13 chips (28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 450 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

Considering Old Bay seasoning has salt in it, it's no surprise that an Old Bay-flavored chip would be high in sodium. These are really high, though, so eat these with caution and definitely in moderation.

herrs salt pepper

1 oz: 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 430 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber,1 g sugar), 2 g protein

Herr's Salt & Pepper chips are—you guessed it—very salty. We expect some extra salt on a salt-flavored chip, but these are exceptionally high.

herrs kettle cooked salt pepper

13 chips (28g): 140 calories, 8 g fat (2 g saturated fat), 420 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

A salt and pepper chip is no better than a salt and vinegar chip. This one, however, is a salt bomb. Though these aren't any higher than others in calories, fat, or carbs, they're so high in sodium that it'll throw a wrench into the rest of your healthy-eating day.

herrs fire

1 oz: 150 calories, 9 g fat (2 g saturated fat), 400 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

Another salt bomb from Herr's! Sure, the fat is lower and there's no sugar, but there's so much salt in these. There are healthier options for a spicy potato chip on this list.

herrs ragin ranch

1 oz: 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 380 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

We love ranch flavoring as much as the next person, but we also know how salty it can be. So it just makes sense that these ranch-flavored chips have quite a bit of sodium in them.

herrs kettle cooked salt vinegar

13 chips (28g): 140 calories, 8 g fat (2 g saturated fat), 360 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

In just 13 chips, you're getting 360 milligrams of sodium, which is quite a bit. And though 13 chips might be a serving size and might satisfy some people, if you want to eat more chips than that, you're creeping up into dangerously high sodium numbers.

herrs red hot

1 oz: 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 340 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

Ouch, these chips have a lot of sodium in them. Though the other metrics aren't too elevated—which is surprising—the sodium level is high enough for these to be a problem.

herrs kettle cooked mesquite bbq

1 oz: 160 calories, 9 g fat (2 g saturated fat), 270 mg sodium, 20 g carbs (1 g fiber, 2 g sugar), 2 g protein

Not only do these chips have quite a bit of sodium, but they're also packed with carbs. With one of the highest carb counts on this list, these delicious chips might be best left on the grocery store shelves.

cheetos flamin hot puffs

13 pieces (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 310 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (<1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 1 g protein

Overall, Cheetos are not a great option when it comes to picking a healthy chip. They have quite a bit of sodium, as well as fat, saturated fat, and calories. We can forgive one elevated number, but when they all creep up, it starts to become a snack we don't recommend. These are Cheetos' worst option.

herrs kettle cooked jalapeno

1 oz: 160 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 300 mg sodium, 19 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

There are better spicy options on this list, in terms of salt and carbs. These also have a bit more saturated fat than some others, so we don't necessarily recommend making this your go-to.

fritos chili cheese

1 oz: 180 calories, 11 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 310 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

If you're a fan of Fritos Chili Cheese, we have bad news—they're kind of terrible. A 1-ounce serving has more than 300 milligrams of sodium, which is really high for a snack. Plus, they have a lot of fat and carbs, making them all-around not a great option.

herrs cheddar sour cream

1 oz: 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 300 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

Herr's loves the salt content, so these cheddar and sour cream chips really pack it in. They're slightly lower in carbs, but the standard 2.5 grams of saturated fat that is in pretty much all their chips.

pringles buffalo ranch

15 crisps (28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 280 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (<1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 1 g protein

Why must ranch flavor be so salty? Perhaps that's why it's so delicious. Buffalo sauce is also notoriously salty, so it makes sense for these Pringles to have a lot of sodium in them, plus saturated fat.

herrs ketchup

1 oz: 150 calories, 9 g fat (2 g saturated fat), 280 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 2 g sugar), 2 g protein

While a ketchup chip is a fun novelty, these are full of sodium and saturated fat. You're better off opting for a tortilla chip with some chopped up tomatoes.

herrs baked barbecue

13 chips (28g): 110 calories, 2 g fat (0 g saturated fat), 280 mg sodium, 22 g carbs (1 g fiber, 2 g sugar), 2 g protein

Like so many other baked chips, these are high in carbs, but they're also high in sodium. If you're looking for something low in calories, these will suffice, but just take caution with the salt and carbs.

cheetos cheddar jalapeno crunchy

21 pieces (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 290 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (<1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

Cheetos' second worst option is the Crunchy Cheddar Jalapeño. They have quite a bit of salt, as well as fat. They're also unfortunately low in fiber.

funyons flamin hot

13 pieces (28g): 140 calories, 6 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 290 mg sodium, 19 g carbs (<1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

Sorry to say Funyuns aren't great. While they are lower in fat and calories than many other chips, they're still high in sodium and carbs. So not the best option but not the worst. (But closer to worst than best.)

herrs kettle cooked cheddar horseradish

13 chips (28g): 140 calories, 8 g fat (2 g saturated fat), 290 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

The tangy horseradish flavor in these chips is incredibly satisfying but also incredibly salty. These are definitely a chip to be enjoyed in moderation.

herrs barbeque

1 oz: 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 290 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

Unfortunately, Herr's BBQ Potato Chips are one of the worst options when it comes to that barbecue flavor. There isn't a ton of added sugar, but there's plenty of salt.

funyuns

13 pieces (28g): 140 calories, 6 g fat (1g saturated fat), 280 mg sodium, 19 g carbs (<1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

The plain Funyuns are a bit better than the flavored ones, with just a touch less sodium, but still not a great pick.

doritos spicy sweet chili

12 chips (28g): 140 calories, 7 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 270 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

The worst Dorito flavor you can pick in terms of sodium is the Spicy Sweet Chili. They sure are delicious, but they pack a wallop of sodium and carbs.

cheetos puffs

13 pieces (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 270 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (<1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

You might think the fact that these snacks are puffed that there'd be a little less to them, but you'd be wrong. They're still high in sodium and fat, unfortunately.

herrs sour cream onion

1 oz: 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 270 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

Of all the sour cream and onion chips, these are not the best. Not only do they have a lot of sodium, but they also have quite a bit of saturated fat.

herrs chickies petes famous crabfries

13 chips (28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 280 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

If you want to eat these simply for the eccentricity of the flavor, then we support you. They are high in sodium, though, but not terrible in carbs.

cape cod jalapeno

18 chips (28g): 140 calories, 7 g fat (0.5 g saturated fat), 260 mg sodium, 17 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

If you're looking for a spicy chip, there are options on this list with far less sodium. While the calories, fat, and saturated fat are low, that sodium number is not really what you want to see in a snack.

cheetos white cheddar bites

38 pieces (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 260 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (<1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

White cheddar adds a bit of extra flair compared to regular cheddar cheese, but in this case, it also adds some extra sodium.

cheetos flamin hot limon crunchy

21 pieces (28g): 170 calories, 11 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 260 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (<1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 1 g protein

All of that delicious Cheetos cheese is loaded with salt, even with the tangy limón flavor. This spicy flavor is on the top end of the Cheetos lineup—and not in a good way.

herrs grill mates montreal steak

13 chips (28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 240 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

These tasty grilled chips are a fun summery treat, but watch out for the salt. The sodium is a little high, as is the saturated fat.

pringles parmesan roasted garlic

15 crisps (28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 250 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (<1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 1 g protein

Parmesan is deliciously salty—it's what makes it so good—but that also means it makes for a salty chip. You'll get a ton of flavor out of these Pringles but also quite a bit of sodium.

herrs stubbs barbq

13 chips (28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 250 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

The iconic Stubb's flavor of these chips is so good that they're hard to resist. But the sodium and saturated fat are a bit unappealing.

herrs kettle cooked honey sriracha

13 chips (28g): 140 calories, 8 g fat (2 g saturated fat), 250 mg sodium, 17 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

These sweet heat chips don't add a lot of calories to your day, but they do add quite a bit of sodium. If you must indulge in these, make sure to clear out some space in your day for this much sodium.

herrs kettle cooked sour cream onion

13 chips (28g): 140 calories, 8 g fat (2 g saturated fat), 250 mg sodium, 17 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

Of Herr's sour cream and onion varieties, this kettle-cooked option is better, as it has slightly less sodium. It also has less saturated fat!

cheetos flamin hot

21 pieces (28g): 170 calories, 11 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 250 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (<1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 1 g protein

There's more fat in these Cheetos than most of the other flavors, plus more sodium. We love Cheetos as much as the next person, but they;re definitely a salty snack.

cheetos xxtra flamin hot crunchy

21 pieces (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 230 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (<1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

These Cheetos may be high in sodium, but they're not so bad in calories compared to other flavors. Plus they have no sugar (which is on par for Cheetos).

cheetos crunchy

21 pieces (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 250 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (<1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

The original Cheetos are one of your better options for a cheesy snack. They're still really high in sodium, but we understand the draw to a Cheeto. Just consider not eating these too often.

ruffles queso cheese

11 chips (28g): 150 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 230 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

The queso flavor in these chips bumps up the sodium quite a bit, along with the fat content. Though they are delicious, they're a bit on the salty side.

cape cod sea salt vinegar

18 chips (28g): 140 calories, 7 g fat (0.5 g saturated fat), 230 mg sodium, 17 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

These pesky salt-flavored chips almost always come with added sodium. They're delicious, but they're salty! These don't have too much fat and saturated fat, though, which is a good thing.

doritos dinamita chile limon

12 chips (28g): 160 calories, 9 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 220 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

We love these chile lime Doritos, but they do have plenty of sodium, carbs, and saturated fat, which is a bummer. They should be enjoyed in moderation.

lays kettle cooked original reduced fat

8 oz: 180 calories, 7 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 27 g carbs (2 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 3 g protein

These may be called a reduced fat chip, but they're really not any better than any other "healthy" chips on this list. They're higher in calories and carbs—by a long shot—and still have saturated fat. One pro on these is that they have 3 grams of protein per serving.

munchos

16 pieces (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 230 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 1 g protein

Munchos has elevated fat and sodium, which isn't a great combination. Yes, they're a deliciously crispy chip, but one that you might be better off eating in small amounts.

lays salt vinegar

17 chips (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 220 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

When you have a salt and vinegar chip, the sodium level will inevitably be higher. If you want to indulge in a salt and vinegar chip, just keep an eye on your salt intake for the rest of the day.

doritos 3d crunch chili cheese nacho

27 chips (28g): 130 calories, 7 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 210 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (2 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

These 3D Doritos have more sodium than the ranch flavor, plus they have plenty of carbs. The novelty of them is worth trying, but perhaps it's better to enjoy in moderation.

herrs baked original

1 oz: 120 calories, 2 g fat (0 g saturated fat), 180 mg sodium, 22 g carbs (1 g fiber, 2 g sugar), 2 g protein

Herr's Baked Original chips are a bit of a conundrum. They're low in calories, fat, and saturated fat, but they're high in carbs (similar to other baked chips) and still have a decent amount of sodium. While the sodium level is low compared to other Herr's chips, it's not as low as some other brands.

fritos scoops spicy jalapeno

28 chips (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 210 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

With the spice comes the salt, unfortunately. These are on the high end for sodium in Fritos, meaning you're better off with a plain variety.

lays limon

15 chips (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 200 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

The good thing about these chips is that they're made with real limes, which we love. However, they're high in sodium, which almost cancels out the positive point.

lays dill pickle

17 chips (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 210 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

The eccentricity of these chips is definitely a plus. Who doesn't want to combine the flavors of a dill pickle with potatoes? These do have an elevated salt content but in moderation aren't terrible.

fritos flavor twists honey bbq

1 oz: 160 calories, 9 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 200 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

It's always a good day when you can have a sweeter chip without too much extra sugar, which is just what you'll get with these Fritos.

lays flamin hot dill pickle

15 chips (28g): 150 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 200 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

The only thing better than a dill pickle chip is a hot dill pickle chip. These are a better sodium option than Lay's regular dill pickle chips—win!

ruffles lime and jalapeno

14 chips (28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 200 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

This is Ruffles' highest salt content from its lineup, though all the chips are fairly similar on the nutrition label itself.

cape cod waves jalapeno ranch

9 chips (28g): 140 calories, 7 g fat (0.5 g saturated fat), 200 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

Though some spicy options aren't too bad, the addition of ranch flavor here bumps the sodium level up. You'll get a lot of flavor, but also a lot of salt.

doritos

12 chips (28g): 150 calories, 8 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 210 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

Your favorite classic Doritos have a lot of salt, sorry to say. They also have quite a bit of carbs, though they're pretty average compared to other Doritos.

doritos salsa verde

12 chips (28g): 140 calories, 7 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 210 mg sodium, 19 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

This Dorito variety also isn't great either. It's pretty high in sodium and higher in carbs than most of the other Doritos options. The Tapatio flavor will be somewhat similar but with less carbs and sodium.

pringles rostisserie chicken

15 crisps (28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 210 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (<1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 1 g protein

We want to love these—they are chicken-flavored after all, but the salt and saturated fat makes it hard.

doritos 3d crunch spicy ranch

27 chips (28g): 130 calories, 6 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 200 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (2 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

When choosing a 3D Dorito—which we support—the Spicy Ranch has less sodium than the nacho flavor by a little bit. It's also slightly less fat!

doritos flamas

12 chips (28g): 140 calories, 8 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 200 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

Though these Doritos are lower in calories, they're a little higher in sodium than other flavors, so it depends on which is more important to you. The sodium level isn't as high as many of these other chips, so we don't consider it a bad choice.

herrs baked cheddar sour cream

1 oz: 110 calories, 2.5 g fat (0.5 g saturated fat), 260 mg sodium, 21 g carbs (1 g fiber, 2 g sugar), 2 g protein

There are plenty of cheesy chips and snacks on this list that have less sodium than these. However, because these are baked, they're lower in calories and fat. With the high salt and carb content, though, it almost seems a shame to have the calories and fat be so low. If you're counting carbs or watching sodium, these aren't the best pick.

herrs kettle cooked original

1 oz: 160 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 19 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

For a kettle-cooked potato chip, these are on par with most brands. The elevated sodium content is thanks to how much salt is sticking to those delicious crunchy potatoes!

doritos flamin hot limon

12 chips (28g): 150 calories, 8 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

You'll get so much flavor from these Doritos—but also a good amount of carbs and sodium too. They aren't the worst, but they're far from the best.

doritos poppin jalapeno

12 chips (28g): 150 calories, 8 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

These spicy Doritos are one of the higher-carb varieties, though the sodium and fat are on par with the rest of the choices.

Cool ranch doritos

12 chips (28g): 150 calories, 8 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

You've got to love a Cool Ranch Dorito, but then you also have to deal with carbs. Cool Ranch is one of the two iconic Doritos flavors, and between this and Nacho Cheese, this is a better choice.

doritos flamin hot nacho bag

12 chips (28g): 150 calories, 1 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 17 g carbs (1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

On par with much of the Doritos lineup, the super spicy flavor is slightly high in sodium and carbs, but in the grand scheme of this list, it's one of the better choices.

doritos spicy nacho

12 chips (28g): 140 calories, 8 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

These are a pretty good spicy option! You'll get all the vibes of having actual nachos without all the carbs or salt.

pringles scorchin cheddar

15 crisps (28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (2.5 g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (<1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 1 g protein

Somehow, the Scorchin Cheddar Pringles ended up on the higher end of the sodium spectrum, perhaps because they're just so cheesy. The rest of the nutrition is pretty even-keeled for a Pringle.

lays flamin hot

17 chips (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

The Flamin' Hot chips might have a higher level of salt in them, but if you consider the extra water you might want to drink while eating them, it balances out a little bit. OK, so not totally, but you will probably need more water with these fiery chips.

doritos simply organic spicy white cheddar

12 chips (28g): 150 calories, 8 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 17 g carbs (1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

An organic option is Doritos' spicy white cheddar flavor. It has a list of organic ingredients, though, it's more loaded with salt than Doritos''other organic chips, making this a slightly worse choice.

tostitos salsa verde

28g: 150 calories, 7 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

Tostitos' Salsa Verde flavor is a decent low-fat option, though it's more elevated in sodium. However, with this chip, you don't need anything extra, considering your salsa flavor is built right in!

cape cod sea salt cracked pepper

18 chips (28g): 140 calories, 7 g fat (0.5g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 17 g carbs (2 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

This may be a salty chip, but it doesn't have a ton of extra sodium. Like all the Cape Cod chips, these also don't have a ton of fat or calories.

doritos blazin buffalo ranch

12 chips (28g): 150 calories, 7 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 17 g carbs (1 g fiber, 1 g sugar), 2 g protein

The beauty of these tasty chips is that they're buffalo flavored and ranch flavored without a ton of extra salt. That's definitely a win.

kettle brand krinkle cut habanero lime

9 chips (28g): 140 calories, 8 g fat (0.5 g saturated fat), 190 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (2 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

We wish these spicy chips had less sodium, but at least they aren't as bad as some of the other fiery flavors on this list. Plus, the lime adds a refreshing twist.

herrs kettle cooked reduced fat

13 chips (28g): 140 calories, 6 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 170 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

This is definitely one of Herr's best chip options. It is, indeed, lower in fat than the other Herr's chips and lower in sodium as well. The calorie count is also not bad, so if you're a Herr's devotee, grab this one for a healthier snack.

17 chips (28g): 140 calories, 7 g fat (0.5 g saturated fat), 110 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

Who doesn't love a waffle-cut chip? Not only are these fun and unique but they don't have a lot of salt, and no sugar at all.

lays kettle cooked sea salt cracked pepper

(28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 115 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (2 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

What we love about these chips is the fact that they're a salty variety without actually adding in a ton of salt. The sodium level isn't too bad for a salt flavor here, which makes this a prime pick if you're looking for something with bold salt flavor.

cape cod original

18 chips (28g): 140 calories, 8 g fat (0.5 g saturated fat), 125 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

Cape Cod's original flavor dials it down on the sodium, plus there's no sugar. They're even low in saturated fat!

fritos scoops

10 chips (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 110 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

You can scoop up all the salsa you want with these chips—they're a solid low-sodium option and don't have a ton of carbs. They're a little higher in saturated fat than some of the others here, but still lower than many others.

tostitos hint of lime

28g: 150 calories, 7 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 125 mg sodium, 18 g carbs (1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

These corn chips give you all the flavor without anything extra. They're a decently low-fat option with next to no sugar, plus they don't have a ton of salt.

lays honey barbecue

15 chips (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 105 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 2 g sugar), 2 g protein

Hello, lower-sodium option! While these honey barbecue chips have a bit of carbs and sugar, they're lower in sodium than many others and pretty standard in terms of calories.

kettle brand sea salt

13 chips (28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 110 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (2 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

Now here is a salt-flavored chip that doesn't pack in a ton of sodium. Not only that, but these also have 2 grams of fiber and no sugar, so we're definitely digging these.

lays lightly salted

15 chips (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 65 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

These low-salt chips are indeed skimpy on sodium, but they're also not a bad option in terms of carbs! Plus, there's next to no sugar. The calorie count is average, making these low-sodium chips an OK choice, though probably not the best compared to some other low-salt varieties.

fritos lightly salted

34 chips (28g): 160 calories, 10 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 80 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

Despite these Fritos being lower in sodium, they still have just as many calories and carbs as most of the other chips on this list. If you're looking for a lower-sodium option, these are a good choice.

tostitos simply organic blue corn

28g: 140 calories, 6 g fat (0.5 g saturated fat), 80 mg sodium, 19 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

These are a great simple, clean chip. Made from nothing but organic blue corn, oil, and salt, these corn chips are a great pick, especially for salsa (another healthy pick!). They're low in calories, fat, saturated fat, and sodium, though they do have a bit of carbs.

lays lightly salted barbecue

15 chips (28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 75 mg sodium, 16 g carbs (1 g fiber, 2 g sugar), 2 g protein

The interesting part about these chips is that they're lower in sodium but a little higher in sugar because they're barbecue flavored. It makes them a little trickier to classify, because it depends on which metric is more important to you. We think the lower sodium is more important, because while the sugar is higher, it's still relatively low.

kettle brand unsalted

13 chips (28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 0 mg sodium, 15 g carbs (2 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

Here's the thing about these unsalted chips—health-wise, they're probably the best option. There's absolutely no salt, they only have two ingredients (potatoes and oil), and there's no sugar. The amount of carbs is standard for what you'll find in a potato chip, and they have 2 grams each of fiber and protein. If you like the taste of an unsalted chip, this should be your first pick.

lays kettle cooked original

16 chips (28g): 150 calories, 9 g fat (1.5 g saturated fat), 90 mg sodium, 17 g carbs (1 g fiber, <1 g sugar), 2 g protein

These are about the cleanest chips you'll see. They're made from just potatoes, oil, and salt, and while they might hold a little more oil than a standard chip, they are much lower in salt while still maintaining the calories and fat.

1 oz: 140 calories, 7 g fat (1 g saturated fat), 55 mg sodium, 19 g carbs (1 g fiber, 0 g sugar), 2 g protein

This one is a winner. Made with just three ingredients, the lightly salted Tostitos corn chip has an incredibly low sodium content, along with not much fat or saturated fat. While there are some carbs and calories (of course, because of the oil and corn), it's still a better choice than everything else on this list.
